The Ga West Municipal Assembly has ordered the immediate closure of Amasaman China Mall following a serious structural failure that occurred on Sunday, 28th December, 2025.
The directive, issued by the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. John Desmond Sowah Nai, followed an incident at about 6:00pm in which a section of the Mall’s first floor collapsed due to excessive loading, resulting in fracture injuries to a customer and some workers and raising serious public safety concerns.
Subsequent to the incident, a joint inspection was carried out by the Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) together with relevant technical officers of the Assembly.

The inspection established that security, safety and structural integrity at the facility have been severely compromised, posing an imminent danger to patrons, workers and the general public.
In view of these findings, the Assembly has directed Management of Amasaman China Mall to close down the facility with immediate effect from Monday, 29th December, 2025 at 2:00pm.
The closure will remain in force until a comprehensive structural integrity assessment is conducted by a certified structural engineer, all identified defects and safety lapses are fully corrected, and the facility is re-inspected .
Certified by the relevant departments of the Ga West Municipal Assembly, including Physical Planning, Works, Environmental Health and the Fire Service. Written safety clearance must also be issued by the Assembly before the Mall can reopen.
The Assembly further directed Management to fully cooperate with all regulatory agencies during the closure period, warning that any attempt to operate the facility in defiance of the directive will attract sanctions under the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), and other applicable laws.
