Ghana Hotels Association hints at possible return to GHATOF

Dr Edward Ackah-Nyamike, President of the Ghana Hotels Association (GHA), has hinted at a possible return of the Association to the Ghana Tourism Federation (GHATOF).

Speaking at the GHATOF Executive Council Elections 2025 in Accra on Wednesday, Dr Ackah-Nyamike said the GHA’s exit from the Federation may not be permanent, noting that future developments could pave the way for renewed collaboration.

“Our exit from GHATOF may not be cast in stone. Things may change, and when they do, there could be the possibility of a reunion,” he said.

He reaffirmed the Association’s commitment to working closely with other trade bodies to promote Ghana as the preferred tourism destination.

“As an association, we know that we cannot do without the other trade associations and, by extension, GHATOF. Let us continue to work hand in hand to ensure that we provide services that meet the aspirations and expectations of our guests and tourists,” he added.

Dr Ackah-Nyamike urged the new GHATOF leadership to prioritise key industry concerns, including the revival of the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Forum, describing it as a vital platform for engagement between government and industry players. He called for the forum to be held quarterly to enhance collaboration and policy dialogue.

He also underscored the need for transparency and accountability in managing the Tourism Development Fund, stressing that it belonged to all industry players and should be administered responsibly.

On training and service delivery, Dr Ackah-Nyamike called for a well-coordinated and structured training system to enhance professionalism and customer service across the tourism and hospitality value chain. He said inadequate training continued to affect service quality, and that consistent investment in human capital was key to maintaining international competitiveness.

He urged industry stakeholders to remain united despite differences in ideas or ideology, saying collaboration was essential for national development.

“We may differ in ideas, in principles, or in ideology, but that should not lead to acrimony or chaos between us. After all, it is all for God and country,” he said.
