The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) and SIC Life Insurance Limited (SIC Life) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to secure the futures of fire officers and establish a dedicated Welfare Fund.
The signing ceremony took place at the Ministry of the Interior and marks a historic collaboration between the two institutions.
Under the MoU, the Welfare Fund will be financed through the total annual premium contributed by the GNFS, providing financial support to retired officers and their families.

The initiative underscores the government’s commitment to protecting and supporting security personnel.
At the ceremony, Mr Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, Minister for the Interior, expressed gratitude to President Mahama for championing the initiative and commended Chief Fire Officer Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sarpong, the first female to hold the position, for her dedication and exemplary leadership.
Highlighting the inherent risks fire officers face, the Minister emphasised the importance of providing insurance coverage to encourage continued service with courage and dedication.
Chief Fire Officer Sarpong thanked SIC Life for the collaboration and pledged to ensure the scheme’s success, noting that staff engagement and education on the insurance benefits would precede implementation.
Mr Solomon Twum Barimah, Managing Director of SIC Life Insurance, assured that the insurance package would cover critical illnesses and would continue to be enhanced to reflect the vital contributions of fire officers to national development.
