The Government is set to deploy 460 rural telephony centres across the Zendo communities next year to fix persistent network challenges, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communication (GIFEC), Mr Tanko Rashid Computer, has announced.
Speaking at the 23rd Zendo Glimetso Za festival in Kpeve, South Dayi District, Mr Computer said GIFEC was working closely with Members of Parliament to ensure improved digital access for all four Zendo communities experiencing severe connectivity gaps.
The festival was held on the theme, “Harnessing Development through Science, Technology and Innovation.”

He revealed that GIFEC would construct an ICT centre and fully equip it with laptops and digital devices, assuring residents that high-speed internet access would soon be a reality.
He praised the festival’s strong cultural expression and community mobilisation, noting that festivals should serve as platforms for development and not just celebration.
South Dayi MP and Majority Chief Whip, Mr Rockson-Nelson Etsey Dafeamekpor, urged residents to safeguard the unity that has sustained the Zendo communities.
He outlined projects completed in Kpeve in recent years, including road improvements, a modern lorry park, a new clinic and the District Health Administration building.
He said the ongoing Agenda 111 project would function as both a district hospital and a referral facility.
To address accommodation shortages that previously discouraged workers from accepting postings, he announced that a 21-unit rural housing project was underway and would be completed next year.
He added that a new site had been secured for the expansion of Kpeve Senior High Technical School, while the old campus would be converted into a Health Training Institute.
Mr Dafeamekpor appealed to the Zendo Central Planning Committee to prioritise development-driven festival management, recommending that proceeds be used to support projects such as providing business capital to women’s groups. He urged each traditional area to select at least 10 women to benefit from festival funds.
Chairman of the Volta MPs Caucus and Ho West MP, Mr Emmanuel Kwesi Bedzrah, commended the Zendo communities for sustaining the festival since 1970 and encouraged them to strengthen unity, promote inter-community marriage, expand their population and grow cultural tourism.
South Dayi District Chief Executive, Mr Courage Kokoroko, said the festival continues to spur development across the Zendo towns.
He highlighted ongoing projects, including a 10-unit storey classroom block for Kpeve Model School, completed market toilet facilities in Kpeve, Gbi Market and PESCO, and CHPS compounds under construction in Kpeyiborme, Todome and Agordeke.
He also mentioned progress on the Todome–Dzemeni road and steps toward constructing a new water reservoir to address chronic supply challenges.
He assured residents of equitable development across all communities and called for cooperation.
Paramount Chief of the Kpeve Traditional Area, Togbe Aku Dompey XI, said the festival’s theme encouraged communities to embrace science and technology while preserving cultural identity.
He thanked government for addressing water challenges in the Volta Region and for awarding the Anyirawase–Kpeve Road Project. He appealed for the revival of the local Agricultural Station to support agribusiness and youth employment and urged community members to back plans for a modern Town Hall.
Togbe Dompey also commended the President‘s Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) initiative, expressing hope that recovered funds would be channelled into national development.
This year’s Zendo Glimetso Za celebration brought together chiefs, residents, government officials, political leaders, cultural groups and special guests, including Queen Etornam of TV3‘s Ghana’s Most Beautiful.
The festival rotates among the five Zendo communities, Klefe, Klikor, Kpeve, Tsibu and Tsorxor,with the 2026 edition scheduled to be hosted by Tsibu in the Ho West District.
