The Criminal Division of the High Court has adjourned to December 9, 2025, the plea-taking of Mustapha Hamid, former Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), and nine other former officials.
The adjournment follows the reassignment of the case from Criminal Court Three to Court Four after prosecutors filed additional charges, increasing the total count from 25 to 54 in the ongoing extortion and money laundering case.
The hearing, initially scheduled for November 13, could not proceed due to the court change, preventing Mr Hamid from moving his application for the release of his passport.

The application, relating to his planned travel to Canada from November 17 to 23 to attend a political event, will now be heard on December 9, with the prosecution opposing the motion.
Mr Hamid and the nine co-accused have been arraigned over an alleged GH¢291 million extortion and money laundering scheme at the NPA.
The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has frozen assets exceeding GH¢100 million and US$100,000, including real estate, lands, fuel stations, and fuel tankers. Prosecutors indicated that investigations are ongoing to trace additional assets linked to the alleged scheme.
