The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has issued a second and final evacuation notice to occupants along the Santasi Roundabout-Asokwa Interchange corridor, urging them to vacate the area on or before January 20, 2026, to pave the way for the ongoing dual-carriage road construction.
In a statement released by the Assembly, the directive targets car dealers, mechanics, taxi operators, squatters, owners of temporary structures, billboard operators, and other traders who are still operating along the stretch despite earlier warnings.
According to KMA, a similar notice was issued on September 24, 2025, instructing all affected occupants to vacate the area by November 1, 2025. However, the Assembly noted that while some complied, others have remained, slowing down redevelopment efforts.

The Assembly confirmed that construction work on the Santasi-Asokwa Interchange dual road has already begun and stressed that full cooperation from the public is essential to ensure the project is completed within schedule.
As part of preparatory works, engineers from the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) have commenced the relocation of critical utility installations along the corridor.
KMA emphasized that these activities require an obstruction-free environment to avoid delays and safety risks.
The Assembly has therefore appealed to residents and affected persons to cooperate with the engineers and contractors on site. It warned that failure to comply with the evacuation directive could result in enforcement actions after the stated deadline.
To mitigate the impact on livelihoods, KMA advised owners of affected garages and facilities to contact relevant departments, including the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), the Physical Planning Department, and the Urban Roads Department, for assistance and possible reallocation.
The Santasi-Asokwa road project forms part of broader efforts by the Assembly to improve traffic flow, enhance road safety, and support economic activity within the Kumasi metropolis. When completed, the dual-carriage road is expected to significantly reduce congestion along one of the city’s busiest transport corridors.
KMA reiterated its commitment to orderly urban development and urged the public to comply with the evacuation notice in the interest of public safety and the timely completion of the project.
