Kumasi High Court hears testimony on Daddy Lumba’s marital status amid inheritance dispute

Mrs Georgina Osei-Bonsu, representing Mrs Akosua Serwaa Fosu, the alleged lawful wife of the late highlife legend Charles Kojo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, has testified that Priscilla Ofori, also known as Odo Broni, was only a “baby mama” to the Fosu family.

Under cross-examination by counsel for Ms Ofori, the second defendant, Mrs Osei-Bonsu, said the late musician had expressed a desire for more children, which Mrs Fosu, due to her age, could not have, and that she was aware of her husband’s intentions.

She added that Mrs Fosu only learned of the deceased’s relationship with the second defendant after the birth of her third child with him.

Ms Ernestina Fosu, also called Akosua Bremponmaa, the late musician’s sister and the plaintiff’s second witness, recounted witnessing the civil marriage between Daddy Lumba and Mrs Fosu in Germany.

She maintained that no marriage rites were performed with the second defendant, asserting that her brother shared almost all personal details with her.

Ms Bremponmaa testified that Daddy Lumba informed her of the children he had with the second defendant and even named the third child after her.

She detailed that when the first child was born, her brother asked her to provide support for the mother and child.

She also refuted claims that her brother was bedridden for five to ten years, explaining that although he had health challenges and once underwent spinal surgery, she visited him whenever he notified her of an illness.

She further explained that Daddy Lumba had restricted the plaintiff from frequent visits to Ghana due to travel costs, loans, and care responsibilities for their children, including a €50,000 loan taken by the couple.

Ms Bremponmaa concluded that while her brother sometimes publicly portrayed the second defendant as his wife, to her knowledge, they were never officially married.
