MDF commissions ultra-modern police office in Amansie West to strengthen security in Ghana’s mining communities

The Minerals Development Fund (MDF) has commissioned an ultra-modern office accommodation for police officers in the Amansie West District, marking a major step toward improving security and community safety in one of Ghana‘s most active mining zones.

The new facility, now handed over to the Ghana Police Service, is designed to enhance both accommodation and operational efficiency for officers under the Manso Nkwanta Divisional Command.

The initiative forms part of MDF’s broader agenda to promote responsible mining, strengthen law enforcement capabilities, and invest in sustainable development across mining-affected regions.

MDF Administrator Dr Hannah Louisa Bisiw said the project reflects the Fund’s commitment to ensuring that mineral royalties deliver direct and meaningful benefits to the communities that host mining operations.

Dr Bisiw explained that MDF, established under the Minerals Development Fund Act, 2016 (Act 912), channels a portion of mineral royalties into development projects aimed at improving living standards in mining areas.

She emphasised that the Manso Nkwanta office is a demonstration of the Fund’s resolve to invest in long-term infrastructure that enhances peace and security, especially in districts facing heightened safety concerns due to mining activities.

“The Minerals Development Fund is deeply committed to supporting communities affected by mining. We believe that sustainable development and responsible mining must be anchored on strong security structures that protect people, property, and the environment,” she said, urging residents to support the police in maintaining law and order.

Ashanti Regional Minister Dr Frank Amoakohene commended MDF for strengthening security infrastructure in the region, noting that the Ashanti Regional Security Council (REGSEC) had made significant progress in fighting crimes such as armed robbery and attacks on mobile money vendors.

He said the new office would boost morale and enhance policing across Amansie West and its neighbouring communities.

Nana Bi-Kusi Appiah II, Paramount Chief of the Manso Nkwanta Traditional Area, expressed profound gratitude to the MDF and government, describing the project as a long-awaited intervention that resolves longstanding accommodation challenges faced by police officers.

He urged authorities to follow up with further development in road networks, education, and health to reinforce overall community progress.

The commissioning ceremony drew traditional authorities, security leaders, assembly members, MDF officials, and residents of Manso Nkwanta, underscoring widespread community support for the security enhancement initiative.
