Accra, Oct. 21. The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has launched a comprehensive review of security arrangements across its regional and district offices following a deadly shooting at its Garu District Office in the Upper East Region.
The attack occurred on Monday, October 20, when unidentified gunmen on motorbikes fired indiscriminately at the NHIA office and its surroundings. The incident claimed four lives, while five others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
In a statement, the Upper East Regional Police Command confirmed the attack and said investigations were ongoing to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.

Dr Victor Asare Bampoe, Chief Executive of NHIA, condemned the act, describing it as “profoundly saddening” and expressed condolences to the bereaved families and the injured.
“The NHIA is working closely with the Ghana Police Service and other security agencies to ensure that those responsible are swiftly brought to justice,” Dr Bampoe stated.
A management team has been dispatched to Garu to support the affected staff, victims, and their families. The Authority reassured the public that the safety and well-being of its employees and clients remain a top priority.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims, the injured, and all those affected by this tragic event,” the NHIA added.
