Jessica Tisch, Commissioner of the New York City Police Department (NYPD), has lauded Ghana‘s leadership in regional security and pledged expanded collaboration between the two countries’ law enforcement agencies.
She made the remarks during a high-level visit by Mr Christian Tetteh-Yohuno, Inspector-General of Police (IGP), and members of the Police Management Board (POMAB) to the NYPD Headquarters at One Police Plaza in New York City, according to a statement copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA).
The visit formed part of IGP Yohuno’s ongoing U.S. law enforcement partnership tour, aimed at strengthening cooperation between the Ghana Police Service (GPS) and the NYPD in technology-driven policing, counterterrorism, intelligence-led operations, and urban crime prevention.

Commissioner Tisch briefed the Ghanaian delegation on the NYPD’s advanced public safety systems, including integrated surveillance networks, real-time crime centres, and drone technology designed to enhance situational awareness and operational response.
The engagement followed the IGP’s earlier meeting with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) New York Field Office, where discussions focused on cybercrime, transnational fraud investigations, and counterterrorism cooperation. Both meetings were facilitated by the FBI Legal Attaché Office in Accra and supported by the U.S. Embassy in Ghana.
During a live demonstration, IGP Yohuno observed the NYPD’s use of drones and camera systems in monitoring incidents, tracking suspects, and preventing crime in real time.
“Seeing how the NYPD employs drone and camera technology to prevent crime in real time underscores how critical technology has become to modern policing,” he said.
“The Ghana Police Service is committed to leveraging similar smart policing tools to make our communities safer, more secure, and more resilient.”
In a significant milestone, both leaders agreed to exchange police liaison officers between the two agencies to promote knowledge sharing and operational coordination. Under the arrangement, the NYPD would assign an officer to the Ghana Police Headquarters in Accra, while the Ghana Police Service would post a liaison officer to the NYPD’s Regional Intelligence Support Center in New York City.
According to the statement, the initiative seeks to foster continuous intelligence exchange, professional development, and institutional collaboration between the two police services.
The engagement concluded with a guided tour of the NYPD’s Joint Operations and Counterterrorism Centres, providing the Ghanaian delegation with firsthand insight into how technology and interagency coordination underpin New York City’s public safety architecture.
