A 30-year-old scrap dealer, Yakubu Zakari, has been sentenced to three months’ imprisonment by the Kwadaso Circuit Court for stealing metals in Bomso, Kumasi.
Zakari, a resident of Aboabo, pleaded not guilty but was found guilty after a full trial presided over by Mr Jephthah Appau.
Police Chief Inspector David Opoku Kwabi told the court that the complainant, Obeng Abayie, a trader in Bomso, spotted Zakari carrying a sack containing four metal bracings outside his shop around 2:20 p.m. on January 13, 2025. Suspecting the items were his, Mr Abayie returned home and discovered his garage had been broken into, and four metal bracings were missing.

He pursued Zakari and intercepted him at Bomso Top High as the convict was loading the stolen metals into a tricycle. Nearby police officers responded to the alarm and arrested Zakari.
A search at the Bomso Police Charge Office recovered several items from him, including a frying pan, a cutlass, four metal bracings, a pinch bar, a hammer, parts of a standing fan, and four iron rods.
The total value of the items is yet to be determined.
In his caution statement, Zakari denied the theft, claiming he purchased the items from two unidentified young men at Bomso.
However, he could not provide any proof of purchase or lead police to the alleged sellers.
Following investigations, he was charged with stealing and subsequently convicted by the court.
