The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) on Monday launched its 2025 Mobile Service Week in Koforidua, kicking off a nationwide outreach campaign aimed at improving access to social security services. The initiative forms part of SSNIT’s 60th anniversary celebrations, running from October 20 to 24, 2025, under the theme “A Legacy of Service.”
The programme features mobile service points at 59 locations across the country, complementing the Trust’s 53 permanent branches, and is supported by the SSNIT Mobile App and USSD code *711*9#.
Mr Kwesi Afreh Biney, Director-General of SSNIT, said the mobile service model is designed to bring services closer to workers and pensioners, reducing the need for long-distance travel.

“The Mobile Service Week reflects our continuous commitment to making social security accessible to all workers in Ghana. Instead of travelling long distances to our offices, members can now perform every SSNIT-related transaction at convenient locations near them,” he said.
The mobile service provides registration and enrolment for new workers and employers, benefits processing and verification, renewal of Pensioner Certificates and Ghana Card-SSNIT number merger, as well as contribution and compliance services, including submission of contribution reports, validation, and statements of account.
Mr Biney emphasised SSNIT’s role in safeguarding the welfare of contributors from their first day at work through retirement and beyond, including lifetime pension payments, annual increases, invalidity pensions, and survivors’ benefits. He added that 2.5 percent of contributions are remitted to the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to cover healthcare premiums.
Speaking on the theme, he said:
“When we talk of A Legacy of Service, we are referring to the many decades of consistent and dedicated service that SSNIT has provided to members, particularly pensioners in this country.”
As of October 2025, SSNIT had paid a total of GHS 5.19 billion in pensions and related benefits to over 256,000 retired men and women nationwide. Beyond benefits, the Trust contributes to nation-building through investments in sectors such as energy, education, housing, and finance, driving growth and creating jobs.
To mark the 60th Anniversary edition of Mobile Service, SSNIT has introduced Social Security Literacy Day, also known as the SSNIT Day of Reading, aimed at educating young people through interactive and fun activities on financial inclusion and retirement planning.
Mrs Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, Eastern Regional Minister, lauded the initiative, noting that it removes barriers to participation and accessibility for artisans, traders, farmers, and small business owners.
“Social security remains one of the most effective tools in the world that ensures economic stability and social justice. Through this Mobile Service Week, I hope many more people in the Eastern Region will take the bold step to register and secure their future,” she said.
The launch was officially declared by Daasebre Kwahu Boateng III, Paramount Chief of the New Juaben Traditional Area, and featured a drama performance to educate the public on the importance of enrolling with SSNIT.
