Two people lost their lives and five others sustained injuries following a head-on collision at Enyiresi on the Accra–Kumasi Highway on Thursday, December 18, 2025. The crash involved a MAN Diesel tanker with registration number GN 4550-19 carrying two occupants and a Sprinter bus, AW 732-13, with eight occupants on board.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) Anyinam Fire Station responded swiftly after receiving a distress call at 2038 hours and arrived at the scene within seven minutes to lead rescue and accident management operations.

One female victim was retrieved deceased at the scene and handed over to the Police, while another victim later died at the Enyiresi Government Hospital.
Five injured persons were treated at Enyiresi Government Hospital and Helpline Hospital in Anyinam, with one of the victims referred to St. Joseph Hospital in Koforidua. Two other occupants involved in the crash escaped without injuries.
Reinforcement arrived from the Bunso Fire Station at 2111 hours as emergency teams worked to stabilize the scene.
Preliminary assessments indicate that the accident occurred after a tyre detached from the tanker, causing it to lose control and collide with the Sprinter bus, which became trapped beneath the tanker.
The Sprinter bus was completely destroyed in the crash, while the tanker sustained partial damage to its front axle. Rescue and recovery operations were successfully concluded at 0043 hours, with GNFS crews returning to base at 0050 hours.
The tanker driver and his mate escaped unhurt and are currently assisting Police with investigations.
From an operational standpoint, the incident highlights the importance of rapid inter-agency collaboration along major highways.
The GNFS commended the professionalism and quick response of its rescue teams and acknowledged the strong support received from the Ghana Police Service Motor Traffic and Transport Department and the Ghana Ambulance Service.
