“Mothers are beaten in their matrimonial homes, and young girls are subjected to abuse by those meant to protect them,” the movement stated in a communique issued in Sunyani to mark the 2025 “16 Days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence” campaign.
The communique, signed by Madam Theresa Mawuena, YUWM Secretary, was released during a forum held at Abesim, near Sunyani, on the sidelines of the campaign.
The event, organized by the Bono Regional Directorate of the Department of Gender with support from ActionAid Ghana, focused on the theme: “The Role of the Community in Protecting Women and Girls.”
The forum brought together civil society actors, security services, political party representatives, and women and youth groups to raise awareness about the forms of gender-based violence and mobilize support for efforts to end the menace.
The communique also expressed concern over harassment and exploitation of women in workplaces, public spaces, relationships, and digital platforms, calling for immediate and decisive action to protect women and girls nationwide.
