The ECOWAS Mission in The Gambia (ECOMIG) GHANCOY 9, stationed at Barra in the North Bank Region, has donated household items to SOS Children’s Village in Bakoteh as part of its civil-military engagement activities. The donation was made on Monday, December 22, 2025.
Items presented included foodstuffs, non-alcoholic beverages, clothing, sanitary materials, and other basic necessities intended to improve the daily welfare of children at the facility.
The gesture formed part of efforts by the Ghanaian contingent to support vulnerable communities beyond their core security mandate.

Speaking on behalf of the Officer Commanding, Lieutenant Colonel Ronne Yaw Agbemafle, the Second-in-Command, Lieutenant Commander Abdul Samed Vincent Dawuda, explained that such humanitarian activities are central to the Company’s civil-military relations.
He noted that Ghanaian troops serving under ECOMIG have, over the years, built strong and positive relationships with Gambian communities through consistent humanitarian and community-based interventions.
The Alternative Care Coordinator of SOS Children’s Village, Cordelia Pratt, expressed appreciation to the Ghanaian contingent, stressing the importance of the donation to the wellbeing of the children.
She noted that proper clothing and care are essential for every child and said the items donated would significantly support the children in their everyday lives.
On behalf of the beneficiaries, Margett Camara also welcomed the support, describing the donation as timely and impactful. She acknowledged the positive effect the gesture would have on the children at the facility.
Beyond the donation, the Ghanaian troops used the visit to engage the children through an outreach session focused on educating them about the roles and responsibilities of the military, with particular emphasis on peacekeeping duties and community support.
