Black Queens coach Kim Bjorkegren seeks extended camp ahead of 2026 WAFCON after qualifying with 7-0 aggregate over Egypt

Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren has expressed his desire to hold a prolonged training camp with the team before they depart for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). Ghana secured qualification for the continental tournament following a dominant 7-0 aggregate win over Egypt in the final round of qualifiers.

Bjorkegren, who led the Queens to a third-place finish at the last WAFCON in Morocco despite limited preparation time, emphasised the importance of extended team cohesion and preparation.
“I would love it if we could stay together for a couple of weeks before the tournament starts,” he told Joy Sports in an exclusive interview.

He noted that additional time together would allow for more training, team meetings, and strategic planning, which is difficult to achieve with only a few training sessions before competitive matches.
“That holy time will make the difference if we can have it,” Bjorkegren added.

While the Black Queens’ WAFCON qualification is confirmed, the team will kick off preparations with an international friendly against England on December 2.
