Ghana‘s women’s national team, the Black Queens, kicked off their preparations for Tuesday’s international friendly against England with their first training session in Southampton on Sunday.
The squad trained for over an hour at Mortgage Decisions Stadium, focusing on ball movement, quick transitions, and set-piece drills under cool conditions.
The team arrived in Southampton earlier in the day after a short trip from Birmingham, where they had been based at Aston Villa’s Bodymoor Heath Training Ground.

Upon arrival, the Black Queens were welcomed by members of the local Ghanaian community before checking into the Hilton Hotel at Utilita Bowl.
Head coach Kim Lars Björkegren acknowledged the challenge ahead of facing the world’s top-ranked team, saying, “We’re jumping into deep water to see if we can swim against the best team in the world. It’s going to be really tough, but we know we have some qualities.”
The friendly at St. Mary’s Stadium represents one of Ghana’s most formidable tests in recent years as the Black Queens aim to build momentum ahead of upcoming continental qualifiers and next year’s Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
