Morocco emerged as the biggest winner at the 2025 CAF Awards held in Rabat, sweeping multiple top categories, including both the Men’s and Women’s Player of the Year titles.
Paris Saint-Germain star Achraf Hakimi was crowned CAF Men’s Player of the Year, becoming the first defender since 1973 to win the accolade.
His exceptional year included winning the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, French Ligue 1, Coupe de France, and helping Morocco secure qualification for the 2026 World Cup.

He is also the first Moroccan to clinch the award since Mustapha Hadji in 1998.
On the women’s side, Ghizlane Chebbak made history as the first Moroccan to win CAF Women’s Player of the Year, following an impressive Women’s Africa Cup of Nations campaign, where she finished as top scorer.
She currently plays for Saudi Arabia‘s Al-Hilal.
Morocco’s remarkable night continued with Yassine Bounou winning Men’s Goalkeeper of the Year, while rising talents Othmane Maamma and Doha El Madani claimed the men’s and women’s young player awards.
The country’s U-20 team, fresh off winning the FIFA U-20 World Cup, was named Men’s National Team of the Year.
Nigeria also earned major recognition, with goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie retaining the Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year award and the Super Falcons winning Women’s National Team of the Year for the second consecutive year.
Cape Verde celebrated as coach Bubista received Men’s Coach of the Year, having guided the nation to its first-ever World Cup appearance.
DR Congo’s Fiston Mayele was honoured as Men’s Interclub Player of the Year after playing a key role in Pyramids FC’s first CAF Champions League title, which also earned the Egyptian side Club of the Year.
Tanzania’s Clement Mzize won Goal of the Year with his stunning long-range strike for Young Africans against TP Mazembe, the only award decided by fan votes.
Winners for the women’s coach and interclub categories will be announced after the conclusion of the CAF Women’s Champions League in Egypt.
