Preparations for the seventh Volta Trade and Investment Fair (VTIF) have been held back as ongoing upgrade works at the Ho Sports Stadium delayed the fair’s scheduled start on Wednesday, November 26, pushing full commencement to Thursday, November 27, ahead of its run to December 8.
A visit by the journalist revealed significant progress at the venue, including improvements to the drainage system, installation of new toilet facilities, clearing of weeds and overgrowth, fresh painting across the facility, and leveling of the stadium compound.
Contractors were seen racing to complete finishing touches to give the stadium a refreshed look as it also prepares to host this year’s National Farmers’ Day Celebration on Friday, December 5.

However, the ongoing works slowed down the mounting of exhibitors’ stands and affected the overall event setup, even as workers pressed on to complete the fixing of tents for exhibitors.
The fair, themed “Volta Rising: Building Global Partnerships for a Thriving 24-Hour Economy,” remains a flagship public, private partnership between the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) and the Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC).
It aims to drive economic development, empower local businesses, and facilitate international partnerships, bringing together exhibitors from Ghana and other countries to showcase products and services across sectors.
Some exhibitors expressed mixed reactions to reporters regarding the organisation, venue choice, and delays.
While some acknowledged improved publicity for the 2025 edition, others feared the late start could affect sales. A number of exhibitors suggested that Jubilee Park would have been a more spacious venue, and some called for extending the fair’s duration to compensate for lost time.
Dr Abraham Gaitu, Chief Executive Officer of Salaria Eyemed, said he secured a space that matched what he paid for and remained optimistic about his participation.
Madam Veronica Agudogo, a fashion accessories dealer, disagreed with the suggestion to move the fair to Jubilee Park, arguing that its location was too far from town and could discourage evening patronage. She said her main concern was the timely completion of the setup, adding, “We’re ready to display our wares.”
Organizers were confident that the delay would not affect exhibitors, explaining that the fair would operate a 24-hour schedule on designated days, making it Ghana’s first continuous trade exhibition.
Mr Fred Avornyo, Chief Executive Officer of VTIF, said the arrangement guaranteed “more time to engage with people, more time to exhibit and more hours for business.”
Mr James Gunu, Volta Regional Minister, who visited the stadium with his team, assured that “no one will regret joining the VTIF,” highlighting the benefits of round-the-clock networking opportunities, business forums, and entertainment experiences that reflect the region’s vibrancy.
